saturday's post

on saturday I got up at about 9.40AM

Dinner 6.50PM
  • this is trying something new in this meal, its shoulder of pork - thats half a shoulder shared between my dad and me - he used jamie oliver's recipe and sadly it didn't turn out as well as it should - the cut its self is really nice I think, once you get past all the fat, you've got really nice meat in there (it was cooked for about 6 hours) but we both think jamie olivers recipe wasn't really all that good, the cooking time wasn't really that good (apparently needed longer, i've never cooked pork, wouldn't know) and the thing was left with a lot of fat still coming off it, a lot of oily greasy fat left at the bottom too, I couldn't get near to finishing my half of the portion because it was just too big and overpowering
  • jamie oliver said make a sauce with bits left from the pan, this wasn't very nice at all, oily mess, and you can see from the sauce there - I think the meat will be lovely next time, but certainly not with that recipe
  • theres some lettuce there
  • that egg is for my mum
  • some bread from the deli, I had two bits of that I think, maybe one
  • some cucumber with a bit of oil on it
  • and some tomato with onion and a light oily kind of dressing
  • I didn't have any of the potato salad, I don't really go for it
  • those crisps are chili and cheese filipino ones I got from the asian supermarket in town - they are really quite nice, quite mild, not much flavour when they first hit your tongue but thats not a bad thing
  • its sunday now and I still feel kind of rough after this pork

Friday 17 April 2009

friday's post

today I got up at about 11.00AM

Dinner 6.40PM
  • thats a curry made from my mum's own spice mix, its not instantly sweet, its an earthy taste but its incredibly satisfying and strong (made my nose run)
  • theres some sticky spicey rice under the curry too
  • and some poppadoms
  • and some naan bread
  • theres mango chutney there, but I only had that on the poppadoms after I had finished the curry

thursday's post

on thursday I got up at about 11.20AM

Dinner 6.35PM
  • dinner is something i've never had before, thats thin bits of leek wrapped like a parcel with savory mince inside - I usually don't like leeks but this was a real surprise because it was nice and thin and not thick
  • that sauce is a sweet horse radish yoghurt sauce which I really liked, I ended up putting the left over sauce from the bowl into my mash
  • thats mash with some tarragon in it
  • theres some snow peas too

wednesday's post

on wednesday I got up at about 9.50AM

Dinner 7.00PM

  • thats another version of swedish inspired meatballs - these are probably my favourite ones and they are far off the actual swedish ones that my mum has forgot how to make - they're made of all pork, and the sauce is kind of porky itself but it has chicken stock in it
  • theres some white rice there too
  • some tiger bread from the co-op
  • and some salad thats lettuce and tomato with a sweet oily dressing which was lovely

Thursday 16 April 2009

i'll catch up tomorrow sorry, got the pictures ready

  • theres also some mint raita there, this went mostly on the pork, a bit on the bread, and a little on that bowl of salad
  • in that bowl theres some tomato, white onion and other green stuff with a light oily dressing
  • and some lettuce

monday's post

on monday I got up at about 10.50AM

Dinner 7.00PM

  • dinner is birdseye cod fish fingers (a real treat) I had these with just a little pepper and a lot of tomato sauce and sweet chili sauce
  • some very nice chips
  • some little bits of deep fried chicken, it didn't turn out very crispy at all as you can see but I think I like it better like this because it is a lot softer
  • under that theres some lettuce
  • and with it some tomato slices
  • theres some bread there for bread and butter but I don't tend to like bread and butter so I just had the bread to clean up the chili and tomato sauce

Sunday 12 April 2009

  • and roast potatoes
  • and theres one roast parsnip in there

theres after gravy

Dinner 6.50PM

  • this was something special for the easter weekend, i'm 99% sure its fillet of pork (I feel stupid for forgetting, i'll check and update) its there with mushrooms, onions and little bits of bacon and chives in a cider sauce and it was wonderful and I definitely want to have it again- it has a weird flavour for pork, it doesn't linger in your mouth after its gone and its kind of delicate and lovely
  • with that theres some sugar snap peas
  • onion rings
  • chips
  • some coleslaw (lots of my chips ended up getting involved with this coleslaw)
  • and a piece of bread from the deli that ended up being used to have a lot of coleslaw
  • I ended up having about 1/3 of my mum's main part of her meal, some chicken with pesto in the middle with some meaty mushrooms with it, it was absolutely lovely too but I haven't got a picture

Friday 10 April 2009

need an early night

i'll catch up tomorrow sorry

have a nice easter to whoever celebrates it

Wednesday 8 April 2009

i can live without salt and pepper i have for ages so its ok

I haven't added any salt or pepper at the table for a week now (apart from some on soft boiled eggs, but they were too hot to eat so i'm not counting that as at the table)

Honestly, you won't miss salt at most meals - in fact, with quite a few meals you start to pick up new flavours that you wouldn't have noticed, or liked, before. I do miss adding salt to pasta bake, most green veg, some roast meats and potatoes. I don't think theres a problem with a quick bit of salt on some pasta bake or broccoli but I doubt i'll need anywhere near as much as before.

I don't even know if I miss pepper, its like me and any sauce kind of thing, i'll smother my food in it because its on the table so its best I don't use it much at all.

give up salt lads
